Rules for Medley Relay:

Each team consists of three human-canine pairs. The team turning in the fastest time wins. There are two rounds; the faster of the two times is the one that counts. Time begins when the first dog crosses the start line and ends when the last dog crosses the finish line, with the disc.

The first thrower attempts to complete two 10-yard throws to their canine in the shortest time possible. A maximum time of one minute is allowed. When the first dog crosses the finish line either after the second completion or after one minute has elapsed, the second thrower may enter the field.

The second thrower attempts to complete two 20-yard throws to their canine in the shortest time possible. A maximum time of one minute is allowed. When the second dog crosses the finish line either after the second completion or after one minute has elapsed, the third thrower may enter the field.

The third thrower attempts to complete two 30-yard throws to their canine in the shortest time possible. A maximum time of 90 seconds is allowed. When the third dog crosses the finish line either after the second completion or after 90 seconds has elapsed, time stops.

For a catch to count, all four paws of the dog must be past or on the line. A successful completion will be marked by the line judge raising a flag.

The thrower must remain behind the throwing line for all throws, but may move freely around the field at other times. A throw will not count if the thrower steps on or over the throwing line prior to or during the release of the disc.

The same thrower may compete with more than dog, but not consecutively. The pair that has just finished their turn must leave the field promptly, either by continuing straight well beyond the finish line, or by moving towards the sideline opposite the holding area where the next pair in the relay is waiting. The next pair must wait in the holding area until the judge there gives the signal that they may enter the field and begin their turn. The thrower may throw from anywhere behind the start line in the space between the two sidelines.

In the event of a nature break, a one-minute penalty will be added to the total time. The handler will be required to clean the area before the next team starts their round.
